This short story a C+
Speaking of unlikable main characters, the short story The Unexpected is told by a vain, sexist, Frenchified artist. He thinks that a wife would be jealous of his models, but then he falls for a distant cousin, marries her, and becomes jealous when a handsome man keeps visiting her. It turns out that she's an artist, too, and that's her model. Points for pointing out his hypocrisy, as well as for the presentation of a wife with a career, points off for the "happy ending," going from the narrator in a murderous rage to an Everybody Laughs Ending (see TVTropes).
